Note to self:  Don't plan to visit Europe in the future during August. NOTHING is open!

July/August 2002

More pictures from my travels.  It seems that Italians take their vacations seriously.  My last week in Milan, the city turned into a ghost town.  Everyone takes 3 to 4 weeks off in August to travel.  Almost all shops and restaurants were closed when I left.

On this trip over I got to do quite a bit of traveling on the weekends.  My first trip was down to Pisa, to see the famous leaning tower.  I was surprised to find that it is not by itself in a field, but behind city walls with a huge cathedral and baptistery next to it.  The next day I traveled into Switzerland to see the Alps.  I ended up driving to St. Moritz and then back through the Alps to Milan.

The next weekend was spent in Munich, Germany.  The European Track and Field Championships were being held while I was there.  Didn't get too much of a chance to sightsee since I flew out on Saturday, But I did get a chance to take a Mercedes SLK out onto the Autobahn.  The final pictures below show that...<grin>
